The Deadly Tower Of Monsters

A gloriously cheap-looking alien B-movie becomes the stage for a surprisingly lively action adventure, complete with wobbling monsters, cardboard-sci-fi drama, and a tongue planted firmly in its cheek. Dick Starspeed crashes on Gravoria, a planet ruled by a tyrannical emperor, then joins rebel princess Scarlet Nova to climb the enormous tower at its center and dismantle the regime. The Deadly Tower of Monsters plays its pulpy premise straight enough to sell the adventure, but its fake 1970s production values turn every dinosaur, ape soldier, and oversized insect into a joke worth enjoying. Director Dan Smith’s running commentary frames the entire campaign as a rediscovered cult film, constantly poking at bad effects, recycled props, and absurd stunt work.

Combat revolves around fast twin-stick shooting, melee weapons, dodging, and a growing selection of gadgets. Dick, Scarlet, and the Robot each bring distinct weapons and special abilities, letting players swap characters to suit a fight or reach particular secrets. Progression comes from scavenging scrap around the tower to improve health, damage, and equipment, while crystal swords, ray guns, laser whips, mines, and time-warp powers keep encounters from becoming too repetitive. The tower’s vertical design is more than scenery: players regularly leap down enormous sections, glide across gaps, and revisit lower areas once new traversal tools open alternate routes and collectibles.

Its strongest idea is the affectionate mockery of vintage creature features, recreated through intentionally crude stop-motion, rubber suits, miniature sets, and deliberately awkward visual effects. Rather than offering a huge open world, it delivers a compact, colorful climb packed with more than fifty oddball enemy types and frequent commentary gags. Combat is accessible and the campaign stays breezy, though players seeking deep character builds or demanding challenge may find it lightweight. Fans of Bastion-style isometric action, camp science fiction, and games that value personality over polish are likely to have the best time with it.
