The Disney Afternoon Collection gathers six NES-era platformers built around recognizable heroes: Scrooge McDuck’s globe-trotting treasure hunts, Darkwing Duck’s crime-fighting missions, Baloo’s aerial cargo runs, and the Rescue Rangers’ battles with Fat Cat. Its mood is bright, colorful, and nostalgic, but the old-school challenge remains very real; enemies hit hard, jumps demand precision, and lives can disappear quickly.

Most of the package plays as side-scrolling action platforming, with each game leaning into its character’s identity. DuckTales and its sequel make Scrooge’s pogo-cane jump central to combat, traversal, and finding alternate routes, while Darkwing Duck uses a blaster and selectable ammunition to handle enemy-filled stages. TaleSpin changes pace with side-scrolling plane combat and trading cargo for upgrades, and both Chip ’n Dale Rescue Rangers games let one or two local players pick up crates and objects to throw at threats. Original level structures, hidden collectibles, bosses, and varied stage themes remain intact, while a rewind function lets players instantly correct a mistimed leap or avoid replaying a difficult section from scratch. Time Attack and Boss Rush modes add score-chasing reasons to revisit familiar games, with online leaderboards for players who want to master every route.

The appeal lies in having six distinct takes on the licensed NES platformer rather than one diluted retro compilation. Optional visual filters recreate the look of an old television, while the Museum supplies concept art, music, and archival material that gives the collection genuine historical value. Some design choices are unmistakably from the late 1980s and early 1990s, including stiff jumps, limited checkpoints, and occasional trial-and-error, but rewind keeps frustration from overwhelming the fun. Fans of Mega Man-style platforming, Disney nostalgia, and compact arcade challenges get the most from it, while newcomers have one of the friendliest ways to try these classics.
