The Haunted: Hells Reach (v2023.02.25 & ALL DLC)

Hell erupts across ruined towns, shadowed forests, and other cursed battlegrounds where four armed survivors face an army of grotesque demons. The Haunted: Hells Reach is a brisk third-person action-horror shooter built around relentless swarms, loud weaponry, and a pulpy supernatural atmosphere rather than slow-burn scares. Its tone lands somewhere between arcade horde survival and B-movie demon carnage, with every encounter pushing players to keep moving before the screen fills with claws, projectiles, and blood. Environmental disasters such as lightning storms and meteor showers make these already hostile arenas feel even less predictable.

Players choose from several characters, enter a haunted map, and fight to complete objectives or simply outlast escalating waves of Hell’s minions. Cooperative Survival supports up to four players online or locally, making teamwork important when reviving allies, covering chokepoints, and managing the increasingly dangerous enemy mix. More than 30 weapons can be upgraded during a run, while concealed special guns and useful items reward players who search beyond the obvious paths. Competitive modes shift the formula further: Battle pits humans against demons, while Demonizer lets combatants turn the tide by taking on infernal powers and hunting former allies.

What separates it from many zombie-wave shooters is its commitment to asymmetrical demon combat and map events that actively interfere with a match instead of serving as background decoration. The Unreal Engine presentation is dated but still gives the creatures, explosions, and gloomy locations a chunky, suitably chaotic impact. Custom map and mod support also gives dedicated groups room to extend the game beyond its eight main environments. Fans of Killing Floor-style co-op shooting, Unreal Tournament-era multiplayer energy, and uncomplicated monster blasting find plenty to enjoy here, especially with friends; solo players can participate, but the design clearly shines when a full squad is surviving the apocalypse together.
