The Humans: Meet the Ancestors

A band of cartoon cave dwellers turns prehistoric survival into a clever, often chaotic puzzle adventure. Set across colorful Stone Age landscapes, the challenge is less about brute force than getting a small tribe safely past traps, cliffs, hostile creatures, and dinosaur-sized threats. Kidnapped humans need rescuing, primitive discoveries become lifesaving tools, and the tone stays playful even when a single bad jump sends the plan tumbling apart. The Humans: Meet the Ancestors carries the breezy charm of an early-’90s cult puzzle game while demanding real patience and planning.

Each level gives you a compact obstacle course and a limited group of humans to guide through it. You move cave people individually, pick up and hand over items, climb ropes, throw spears, use fire, build paths, and arrange the tribe so every member reaches the exit alive. Tools are both abilities and puzzle pieces: a spear can handle an enemy or serve another purpose, while a torch, wheel, rope, or other object may need to be carried across the stage in a very specific order. The difficulty steadily rises through 80 levels, introducing new hazards and asking players to manage timing, positioning, and the occasional awkward bit of old-school platform control.

What separates it from a standard platformer is its cooperative problem-solving within a single-player format. Its little humans feel like a compact team rather than disposable units, and the best solutions often involve using one character to create an opening for the others. Eight themed regions keep the scenery and hazards changing, while the hand-drawn presentation and gentle comedy make failed attempts easier to laugh off. Fans of Lemmings, The Lost Vikings, or vintage Amiga-style brainteasers should find plenty to enjoy, although newcomers should expect a deliberately demanding learning curve and some trial-and-error.
