THE LEGEND OF HEROES: HAJIMARI NO KISEKI

Zemuria is still reeling from the Great Twilight when three intertwined stories begin pushing its fragile peace toward another crisis. THE LEGEND OF HEROES: HAJIMARI NO KISEKI, known internationally as Trails into Reverie, is a dense, character-driven JRPG that serves as a major bridge between the Crossbell and Erebonia arcs. Players follow freedom fighter Lloyd Bannings, Ashen Chevalier Rean Schwarzer, and the masked C, each confronting a different threat while the continent’s political future remains uncertain. The mood balances military tension, conspiracies, and dramatic anime spectacle with the warm party banter that defines the Kiseki series.

The signature Cross Story system lets you swap between the three routes at key points, showing simultaneous events from sharply different perspectives. Battles use the series’ fast tactical turn-based system, where turn order, positioning, Arts, character-specific Crafts, Link attacks, and powerful Brave Orders all matter more than simply selecting the strongest move. A huge roster of returning heroes becomes playable, with equipment, quartz loadouts, bonding events, and team composition offering plenty of room to tailor your approach. Outside the main chapters, the Reverie Corridor provides a replayable dungeon-crawling mode with randomized layouts, rare rewards, party experimentation, and optional story episodes that flesh out familiar faces.

What stands out is the sheer scale of its crossover storytelling: few RPGs make years of previous plotlines, nations, and party members collide so confidently. Falcom’s stylized anime presentation is not technically cutting-edge, but expressive character portraits, energetic combat effects, and an excellent soundtrack carry the emotional highs. The PC release also includes a substantial bundle of cosmetic and support DLC, including costumes and character attachments, from the beginning. Longtime Trails players get a rewarding payoff comparable to a Marvel-style event built from several RPG sagas, while newcomers can enjoy the combat but may struggle with the enormous cast and heavy reliance on earlier stories.
