The Maw

A timid alien blob with an appetite for everything turns a stranded-world escape into a playful buddy adventure. Frank, a small blue extraterrestrial prisoner, breaks free from a transport ship alongside Maw, an almost indestructible creature whose first instinct is to eat whatever crosses his path. Their journey across colorful alien landscapes keeps a light, cartoonish tone, mixing slapstick humor with the threat of hostile wildlife, military pursuers, and hazardous machinery. The appeal lies in watching a supposedly helpless pet evolve into an enormous force of nature.

Players guide Frank through eight compact 3D levels, using an energy leash to direct Maw toward creatures, objects, switches, and obstacles. Feeding Maw is the central loop: each alien species he consumes grants a new ability, such as electrical power, fire breathing, or the strength to bulldoze heavier barriers, while repeated meals make him visibly larger. Puzzles generally ask you to identify which creature or environmental feature Maw needs next, then maneuver both partners into position without letting Frank get caught in the chaos. Combat stays simple and indirect, since Maw handles danger through hunger and growth rather than conventional weapons, making the game approachable even for players who rarely play action adventures.

The Maw stands out because its progression is physical, immediate, and funny: a tiny blob gradually becomes large enough to swallow threats that previously tower over him.
