The Night Ripper (v0.4.2)

A rain-slicked walk home turns into a desperate fight for survival as Rachel crosses a hostile city after a late diner shift. The Night Ripper delivers compact, old-school slasher horror, putting an ordinary woman against a knife-wielding predator stalking the streets in search of another victim. Its grimy urban setting, oppressive darkness, and deliberately rough retro presentation evoke the unease of low-budget ’80s horror and early 3D survival games. Rather than empowering the player, the game builds tension around vulnerability, limited options, and the constant fear that the killer’s car is nearby.

Rachel needs enough change to use a payphone and contact her roommate, who can let her back into the safety of her home. That simple objective turns the city into a dangerous scavenging ground: players search streets and surrounding locations for coins while keeping an eye out for the Ripper’s patrols. Direct confrontation is not the point; staying alive relies on awareness, fast decisions, escape routes, and knowing when to hide or run. The threat can appear while you are navigating cramped alleys and bleak neighborhoods, so even routine exploration carries the risk of an abrupt, violent encounter.

Puppet Combo’s signature aesthetic does much of the heavy lifting, using chunky character models, harsh lighting, grainy textures, and intentionally awkward visual fidelity to make every location feel like a forgotten VHS nightmare. The Night Ripper is less about elaborate puzzles or long campaigns than sustaining a raw cat-and-mouse panic from beginning to end. Its street-level premise also makes the horror feel unusually immediate: the goal is not to save the world, but simply to get through one terrible night alive. Fans of Clock Tower, early Resident Evil tension, and lo-fi slasher films should find plenty to like, while newcomers should expect a short, unforgiving horror experience built around atmosphere rather than action.
