The Persistence (v1.01)

A dying colony ship becomes a shifting, blood-soaked labyrinth where every corridor can hide a mutant, a trap, or the supplies needed to stay alive. The Persistence blends first-person horror, stealth action, and roguelite progression in a bleak sci-fi setting that feels closer to Dead Space’s industrial dread than a conventional shooter’s power fantasy. You play as cloned security officer Zimri Eder, repeatedly awakened by the vessel’s systems after each fatal expedition. Reaching Earth means restoring critical ship functions while surviving crew members twisted into violent aberrations.

Most runs involve pushing through procedurally rearranged decks, scavenging resources, locating objectives, and deciding whether a fight is worth the risk. Zimri can sneak behind enemies for brutal executions, use firearms and melee tools when stealth collapses, and raise a personal shield to survive incoming attacks, but ammunition and health never feel limitless. DNA collected from enemies funds permanent upgrades to health, endurance, and defenses, while found materials unlock stronger weapons, suit perks, and helpful blueprints. Death sends you back in a fresh clone rather than ending the campaign outright, retaining much of your long-term progress while asking you to adapt to a newly configured ship.

Its strongest idea is the uneasy mix of familiar progression and unreliable geography: memorizing a route rarely guarantees safety because the macrostructure keeps changing between attempts. The result is tense rather than purely punishing, rewarding careful movement, enemy awareness, and smart use of the resources you bring into each run. Enhanced Edition features improve the presentation with sharper lighting, particles, interface refinements, and optional ray tracing and DLSS support on compatible hardware, making the ship’s shadows and cramped interiors more convincing. Players who enjoy roguelites such as Returnal or Void Bastards, but want slower, more methodical first-person horror, find plenty to like here; newcomers should expect a demanding learning curve but a forgiving sense of permanent advancement.
