Matches revolve around knocking rival cars out of the arena, with well-timed drifts adding extra force to impacts and rewarding players who can control their slides under pressure. A driver whose car is overturned or sent flying is not eliminated; they continue on foot, punch vehicles upright, dodge traffic, and can hijack an opponent’s abandoned machine. Randomly delivered power-ups keep the field unstable, from sticky explosives and homing missiles to a black-hole weapon capable of clearing a dangerous cluster in seconds. Death also refuses to stay quiet, as defeated drivers return as barrel-launching catapults that can bombard the surviving racers and make late-round victories far from secure.

That constant shift between driving, fighting on foot, and causing havoc from beyond the grave gives Thunder Rally more personality than a standard arena racer. Matches are easy to understand but remain unpredictable because a player without a car can still turn the entire round around with a fist, a stolen ride, or a carefully placed explosive. CPU opponents fill empty slots when a full room is unavailable, although the game’s best moments clearly come from shouting at friends gathered around one screen.
