A broken engine threatens a surreal cosmos built on enormous fish-shaped planets, and a small girl becomes the unlikely person meant to put it right. TOHU is a hand-drawn point-and-click adventure with a gentle, storybook mood, though its oddball world often leans into delightfully absurd comedy. The Girl travels between lavishly detailed locations in search of answers about the Sacred Engine, her own identity, and the strange inhabitants caught up in the crisis. Christopher Larkin’s atmospheric score gives the journey a warm, slightly melancholy undercurrent beneath all the visual whimsy.

Most of the adventure revolves around inspecting scenes, speaking with eccentric characters, collecting useful objects, and working through inventory-based puzzles. The Girl is nimble enough to slip into small spaces and reach awkward mechanisms, while her transformable mechanical counterpart Cubus handles jobs requiring weight, strength, or a more literal pair of metal hands. Puzzles range from locating creatures to fuel a travelling vessel to deciphering bizarre machinery and fulfilling the peculiar requests of locals, so careful observation matters more than quick reactions. Progress follows a largely linear chain of handcrafted areas, keeping the focus on solving the next imaginative obstacle rather than open-ended wandering or combat.

TOHU stands out through its extraordinary illustration work: every screen is packed with animated details, strange lifeforms, and backgrounds that reward a slow look before clicking onward. Its puzzles are whimsical without becoming cruelly opaque, although players accustomed to classic adventure games will get the most from testing dialogue clues and revisiting earlier scenes. Cubus is more than a cosmetic sidekick, giving the familiar point-and-click formula a simple but useful character-switching twist. Fans of Machinarium, Samorost, or other visually rich puzzle adventures should feel immediately at home, while newcomers looking for a compact, low-pressure adventure find an approachable and memorable introduction to the genre.
