Players join Tony Hawk or Bam Margera’s crew on the World Destruction Tour, travelling from Boston and Barcelona to Australia, New Orleans, and beyond while competing to cause the most damage. The tone is loud, mischievous, and deliberately ridiculous, with familiar pro skaters, celebrity guests, secret characters, and objectives that often ask for far more than a clean high score. Released in 2004, Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 captures a particularly wild snapshot of skate culture and MTV stunt-show energy.

Each level functions as a compact playground packed with rails, ramps, hidden gaps, collectibles, pedestrians, and destructible props. Core skating still revolves around linking grinds, manuals, flips, grabs, reverts, and special tricks into enormous combos, but the expanded system also lets players use stickers, graffiti, projectiles, and occasional off-board tasks to complete goals. Story Mode mixes score challenges with character-specific missions and environmental sabotage, while Classic Mode delivers the more traditional two-minute format of earning points, locating tapes, and completing goals under pressure. A create-a-skater suite, park editor, and multiplayer modes add extra ways to keep playing after the main tour, although its dated PC presentation and controls can require some patience.

What separates it from earlier Tony Hawk entries is its willingness to turn every skate spot into a comedy set piece rather than a pure sporting venue. Levels remain cleverly designed for flow, rewarding players who spot alternate routes and sustain combos across entire city blocks, yet the objectives constantly interrupt the expected rhythm with weird stunts and destructive side activities. The soundtrack and exaggerated character animations sell the mid-2000s attitude, while the large roster gives fans plenty of styles to experiment with. Players who prefer the focused structure of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater may find the humor excessive, but anyone who enjoys arcade skating, creative score chasing, and the irreverent personality of games like Skate’s more playful challenges will find plenty to enjoy.
