What separates Umbral from more familiar first-person scare games is its emphasis on spiritual consequence and emotional discomfort over monster chases or elaborate mechanics. The small-scale production shows in its concise scope, but that brevity works in its favor: scenes move quickly, the atmosphere stays concentrated, and the game does not overstay its premise.
