Each expedition begins by choosing one of three playable gnome leaders, each carrying a different starting deck, passive strengths, and signature abilities. Battles play out through turn-based card combat: recruit rescued allies, spend resources efficiently, target enemies according to their placement, and stack effects such as poison, weakness, blindness, direct damage, and drunken chaos. Building a strong deck means more than collecting high-value cards, since party composition and card interactions can create powerful combo turns. Failed runs still contribute to long-term improvement, allowing heroes to gain upgrades and making later attempts more flexible without removing the challenge.

What separates it from more serious deckbuilders is its aggressively silly storybook satire, including attacks designed to humiliate enemies as much as defeat them. A large card pool and two dozen status effects give repeated runs room to develop in different directions, while bosses demand more planning than ordinary encounters.
