Their paths cross around the supposedly haunted Hartford Mansion before leading toward the unnerving Carcosa Asylum and stranger realms beyond ordinary understanding. Matthew’s campaign plays as a combat-focused action horror experience, sending him through hostile halls, dreamscapes, and otherworldly locations with firearms ready for grotesque creatures. Ammunition, enemy encounters, environmental clues, and puzzles all shape his investigation, while the story steadily questions whether the monsters are supernatural threats or reflections of his deteriorating mind. Della approaches much of the same nightmare from a radically different angle: she relies on stealth, concealment, and careful movement instead of brute force. Avoiding monsters becomes as important as understanding them, giving her route a more vulnerable, suspense-heavy rhythm and making the choice of protagonist meaningful rather than cosmetic.

The dual-character structure is Venatrix’s strongest idea, offering two interpretations of shared events and contrasting viewpoints on its haunted setting. Matthew delivers the more traditional survival-horror power fantasy, while Della makes familiar spaces feel dangerous through the lack of direct combat options. Its turn-of-the-century atmosphere, occult investigation, shifting dream logic, and asylum imagery should appeal to players who enjoy the uneasy storytelling of Amnesia, Call of Cthulhu, or older Resident Evil-style puzzle horror. Horror veterans looking for a narrative built around perspective and psychological unease get the most from playing both campaigns, though newcomers can choose Matthew for a more forgiving introduction to its threats.
