Ragnarok arrives as a brutal winter, and Midgard needs more than divine prophecy to survive it. Vikings – Wolves of Midgard is a top-down action RPG built around a disgraced Viking clan standing against Jotun armies, undead horrors, and rival warriors as fire and frost giants push the world toward collapse. Its Norse setting is not a clean heroic fantasy: battlefields are muddy, villages burn, and every expedition feels like a hard fight against a hostile land as much as its monsters. The tone sits somewhere between Diablo’s loot-driven carnage and a grim saga of survival.

Players choose from distinct Viking fighters, including weapon-focused warriors, agile hunters, and shield-bearing combatants, then carve through enemy packs using melee strikes, ranged attacks, dodges, blocks, and powerful rage-fueled abilities. Quests send the clan across snowy coasts, cursed forests, volcanic regions, and mythological realms, with monsters dropping equipment that supports different combat builds. Cold, poison, fire, and other environmental threats matter during missions, so carrying supplies and managing resistance is often as important as swinging an axe. Between expeditions, the village acts as a base for crafting gear, improving equipment, and offering blood tributes to Norse gods in exchange for useful blessings. Online cooperative play allows two warriors to tackle the campaign together, making the more demanding encounters far more manageable.

Its strongest idea is the attempt to make Norse mythology feel physical and dangerous rather than simply using it as decoration. God favors, harsh weather, and a heavier emphasis on defensive timing give combat a slightly more deliberate rhythm than many click-and-slash RPGs, though loot hunting remains central. The campaign delivers a straightforward series of monster-filled missions rather than a huge open world, making it easy to pick up in short sessions. Fans of Diablo, Victor Vran, or Warhammer: Chaosbane who want a Viking-flavored alternative will find plenty to enjoy, especially in co-op; veterans may miss deeper build complexity, but newcomers can appreciate its direct, accessible action.
