Yeondu High School turns an innocent after-hours gesture into a nerve-shredding overnight escape. New student Hee-Min Lee sneaks inside to leave candy for a classmate before the White Day holiday, only to find the campus locked down and its corridors crawling with restless spirits. The setting trades guns and monster-slaying for oppressive darkness, echoing footsteps, and the constant fear that a hostile janitor is somewhere nearby. Its horror feels distinctly Korean, mixing school-life drama, ghost stories, and a building whose tragic history surfaces one frightening clue at a time.

Survival depends on staying quiet, reading the environment, and solving puzzles under pressure. Hee-Min carries no weapon, so confrontations mean hiding in classrooms, slipping around patrol routes, managing limited resources, and running only when there is no safer option. Keys, notes, combination locks, supernatural rituals, and interlocking environmental puzzles gradually open new wings of the school while revealing why its ghosts remain trapped. Difficulty settings significantly alter enemy aggression and puzzle demands, while several character relationships, choices, and discoveries lead to different conclusions.

White Day: A Labyrinth Named School stands apart through its large, interconnected campus and its willingness to make ordinary locations—bathrooms, stairwells, faculty offices, and dark classrooms—feel dangerous. The janitor is especially effective because he behaves less like a scripted scare and more like an unpredictable stalker, forcing players to learn escape routes and listen carefully. Its dated visual edges do little to blunt the atmosphere; strong sound design, sudden apparitions, and folklore-driven scares still create memorable tension. Fans of Fatal Frame, Clock Tower, and classic puzzle-heavy survival horror should find plenty to enjoy, while newcomers need patience for demanding stealth and occasional old-school trial-and-error.
