Whitestone (v1.01)

A luxury airship bound for the Arctic becomes a floating nightmare when apprentice archaeologist Jack finds his cabin violated and his closest friend missing. Set at the dawn of the twentieth century, Whitestone begins as a tense murder mystery aboard the colossal Sunchaser, then steadily bends into psychological horror, action RPG combat, strange comedy, and character-driven romance. Suspicion poisons every deck as the crew begins to fear Jack, while Jack has equally good reason to fear them. The mood can shift from an awkward social gathering to a brutal encounter with something impossible, making the voyage feel deliberately unstable.

Each of the game’s 30 days asks Jack to choose how he spends his time: investigate clues, study to improve his prospects, take on requests from fellow passengers, socialize, or wander into places where he probably should not be alone. Conversations and decisions shape relationships, unlock routes, and determine whether the story leans toward an optimistic JRPG-style conclusion or a harsher survival-horror outcome. Combat uses a growing arsenal of weapons and elemental abilities against enemies drawn from medieval fantasy, science fiction, and steampunk-inspired scenarios. Eight combat-focused stages break up the investigation, while New Game+ carries over equipment, money, and statistics for players willing to face a more punishing run.

Whitestone’s biggest strength is its willingness to make radically different choices matter beyond a final ending screen. Six routes alter the central cast, threats, story emphasis, and challenge level, while twenty crewmates provide side quests and opportunities to learn who may actually be worth trusting. Its visual-novel-like branching structure recalls Corpse Party and Higurashi, but the RPG progression, social elements, and escalating dread also evoke Persona, Dead Space, and Dark Souls in unusual combination. Players who enjoy replaying narrative games to uncover alternate perspectives should find plenty to chase here, while newcomers should be prepared for tonal whiplash, grim outcomes, and decisions that can leave Jack’s future in serious doubt.
