A grim campaign of revenge and supernatural warfare drives this isometric action RPG, casting you as a survivor raised by the Republic’s ruthless military order. The story begins with an assault against the Brotherhood of Dawn, then expands into conspiracies, corrupted wastelands, and the troubled city-state of Stormfall. Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem carries a weightier tone than many loot-driven adventures, mixing demonic horror, political betrayal, and lavish dark-fantasy environments. Its visual presentation is a real strength, with detailed ruins, desert battlefields, and explosive spell effects giving every encounter a cinematic punch.

Combat revolves around carving through dense enemy groups, collecting gear, and continuously reshaping a build around the weapons in hand. Rather than locking players into traditional classes, swords, bows, pistols, catalysts, and heavy weapons determine available skill types, letting one character pivot from spinning melee attacks to ranged magic without starting over. Rage and Willpower form an interconnected resource system: martial abilities build one resource while spells consume the other, encouraging hybrid loadouts instead of a single repetitive rotation. Dodge rolls use stamina, while a huge rotating passive web called the Gate of Fates provides dozens of directions for specializing in damage, defense, ailments, minions, or resource management; co-op also supports tackling the campaign alongside friends.

The standout idea is freedom without complete chaos: equipment, active skills, modifier runes, and the rotating passive rings allow surprisingly experimental character crafting. Apocalyptic transformations add another flashy power layer, temporarily turning the hero into a devastating celestial or monstrous form with its own attacks. Some of its systems lack the long-term depth and polish of Diablo IV or Path of Exile, and the campaign’s pacing can drag between major fights, but the core combat remains satisfyingly crunchy. Players who enjoy Diablo-style loot hunting but want less rigid classes and a more visual, build-focused take on the formula find plenty to like, especially once they begin mixing weapons and abilities in unconventional ways.
