You command the X-Morph, an alien force whose terraforming operation draws the full attention of human militaries, and your job is to keep vital harvesters alive through escalating counterattacks. The tone is gleefully hostile rather than heroic: skyscrapers crumble, bridges collapse, and military columns are funneled into carefully prepared kill zones. X-Morph: Defense makes defending a base feel active, putting you in the cockpit of a heavily armed alien fighter instead of leaving you to watch towers do all the work.

Each wave begins with a planning phase that reveals approaching enemy types and routes, giving you unlimited time to study the battlefield before committing resources. Towers can be placed across much of the map, then linked by laser barriers that redirect tanks and infantry into winding mazes, allowing clever layouts to matter as much as raw firepower. Specialized defenses answer different threats—flame weapons punish fast ground swarms, artillery controls dense formations, and anti-air systems handle aircraft—while your ship jumps into the fight with an arsenal of alien guns and abilities. Destructible scenery is more than decoration: demolishing structures or dropping a bridge can delay, damage, or reroute an assault at exactly the right moment. Local split-screen co-op also lets two players share building duties and the on-the-ground firefight.

Its strongest idea is the freedom to reshape paths rather than merely place turrets beside a fixed road. Levels feel like tactical sandboxes, where a strong defense can come from an intricate laser-fence labyrinth, aggressive player-controlled shooting, or a last-second environmental collapse.
