The Caribbean in Xenus 2: White Gold is less postcard paradise than a volatile frontier where drug cartels, mercenaries, smugglers, soldiers, and local factions turn every island into a potential war zone. You play an investigator drawn into a string of strange incidents, only to become tangled in a much broader web of criminal deals, political tension, and personal rivalries. Its tone is proudly rough-edged and chaotic, pairing tropical beaches and resort towns with firefights, shady backroom negotiations, and sudden explosions. The result feels like an ambitious open-world shooter from an era when games were happy to let players make a mess of an entire map.

Combat revolves around first-person gunplay with more than 30 weapons, but the larger loop is about choosing where to go, whom to trust, and how aggressively to solve problems. Islands can be visited freely, with missions often allowing room for detours, faction work, scavenging, and opportunistic violence rather than forcing a single clean route forward. Cars, trucks, armored vehicles, helicopters, and gunboats expand the sandbox, while destructible structures and scenery encourage players to treat a firefight as a demolition project when subtlety fails. An RPG-style character system supports progression, and the relationships between eight competing groups give decisions consequences beyond simply earning cash or supplies.

What makes White Gold memorable is its willingness to combine the scale and faction tension of open-world RPGs with the unruly energy of a B-movie military shooter. Dynamic weather, changing daylight, and a large cast of eccentric NPCs help its islands feel active, even when the presentation shows its age and the shooting can feel clunky by modern standards.
