Each descent asks you to steer through enemy formations, avoid distinct attack patterns, and collect upgrades that turn a modest loadout into a screen-clearing machine. Heroes can carry as many as five weapons at once, mixing melee tools with ranged options before improving and combining them into stronger forms; the 60-weapon pool gives builds plenty of room to lean toward close-range brutality, projectile storms, or hybrid setups. Handcrafted stages culminate in larger boss encounters, so survival depends on positioning and choosing synergies rather than simply standing still. Between runs, the reclaimed Cathedral serves as a progression base, with facilities for training, crafting, alchemical boosts, and unlocking additional characters.

What separates Arms of God from the usual Vampire Survivors-style formula is its overtly hellish heavy-metal presentation and the emphasis on weapon merging alongside hero-specific abilities. Ten playable heroes and 60 levels provide meaningful variety, while enemy behaviors encourage more adaptation than autoshooters where every foe merely rushes forward. Steam Deck support and simple controls make it a strong fit for short, low-friction sessions, but players who enjoy optimizing roguelite builds will find the deeper hook in chasing absurd combinations.
