Ninth-century England becomes a sprawling battlefield of mud, mist, ruined Roman stone, and Saxon kingdoms in this muscular open-world adventure. You play Eivor, a Viking clan leader who leaves Norway’s harsh coast behind to carve out a future across a politically fractured Britain. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla trades the series’ dense city focus for longship raids, contested territories, and a settlement that gradually turns conquest into a sense of home. Its tone is brutal but not relentlessly grim, balancing bloody warfare and pagan myth with rowdy feasts, friendships, and dry humor.

Eivor’s campaign revolves around pledging support to regional rulers, investigating local power struggles, and using those alliances to expand the Raven Clan’s influence. Combat is weighty and flexible, allowing dual-wielded axes, swords, shields, flails, bows, and abilities powered by adrenaline; well-timed parries, weak-point shots, and vicious finishing moves make even ordinary fights feel physical. Stealth remains important through the Hidden Blade, social blending, scouting raven, and assassination opportunities, though direct confrontation is often just as viable. Between story arcs, you raid monasteries for supplies, hunt legendary animals, fish, solve environmental puzzles, explore tombs, and invest resources into improving your village’s blacksmith, barracks, stable, and other services.

What separates Valhalla from earlier Assassin’s Creed entries is its scale and its emphasis on Viking community-building rather than simply climbing an assassin’s hierarchy. England’s regions each have distinct landscapes and self-contained narratives, while Norway, mythological realms, optional mysteries, gear upgrades, and collectible secrets provide an enormous amount to pursue. The RPG choices add flavor to Eivor’s personality and relationships, although the central historical plot still follows a defined direction. Players who enjoy The Witcher 3-style regional questing, open-world exploration, and cinematic melee combat will find plenty to enjoy, while series veterans should expect a longer, more combat-driven Assassin’s Creed than the stealth-heavy classics.
