Asterix & Obelix XXXL : The Ram From Hibernia

Roman helmets fly, barrels splinter, and a stolen golden ram sends Asterix and Obelix on a brisk comic-book brawl across ancient Europe. Set in 50 B.C., Asterix & Obelix XXXL: The Ram From Hibernia follows the familiar Gaulish duo as they answer a plea from Keratine, daughter of an Irish chieftain, whose father’s prized ram has fallen into Roman hands. The adventure moves from the heroes’ village through six colorful regions, eventually reaching Hibernia, with the series’ broad humor and exaggerated slapstick intact. Its tone stays light and family-friendly, even when entire patrols of legionaries are being flattened.

Play unfolds from an isometric 3D viewpoint, mixing straightforward exploration with arena-like fights against crowds of Romans. Asterix and Obelix use punches, chained combos, charged attacks, and spectacular finishing moves, while loose objects and environmental hazards add variety to the beat-’em-up action. Levels hide alternate routes and secrets behind breakable scenery or interactive set pieces, encouraging players to search beyond the obvious path rather than simply rush to the next objective. The most meaningful addition is same-screen local co-op for up to four people, turning the campaign into a pleasantly chaotic couch session where friends can pile into every fight together.

The Ram From Hibernia stands out less through mechanical depth than through its polished adaptation of the comics’ visual identity: rounded characters, lively locations, and Romans who exist mainly to be launched skyward. Combat is accessible enough for younger players and newcomers, though completionists and groups can get more mileage from hunting secrets and improving their performance across the stages. Solo players should expect a compact, uncomplicated action adventure rather than a deep character-building RPG, with repetition becoming more noticeable over long sessions. Fans of the earlier XXL games, as well as players looking for a lighter alternative to classic arcade brawlers such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, will find an affectionate, cooperative romp with plenty of Gaulish charm.
