Fans get plenty of scenes with Eren, Mikasa, Levi, and the wider Survey Corps, but the personal protagonist gives the campaign a stronger sense of involvement than a straight retelling.

Combat revolves around omni-directional mobility gear, letting you fire anchors into buildings, trees, and Titans before slingshotting through the air at extreme speed. Successful kills demand more than simply attacking; you identify limbs to cripple, manage gas and blade durability, build momentum, then line up precise strikes on the Titan’s nape. Hook Drive maneuvers and surprise attacks make it easier to circle vulnerable targets, while allied soldiers can be called in for Buddy Actions that create openings or deliver powerful support. Between missions, Daily Life sections let you deepen relationships, upgrade equipment, improve skills, and prepare your created soldier, while online modes support cooperative expeditions as well as competitive play.

What separates A.O.T.2 from many anime tie-ins is how convincingly it captures the series’ defining movement system rather than treating Titan battles as ordinary hack-and-slash encounters. Swinging at rooftop height before carving through a giant’s legs has a satisfying rhythm, especially when several Titans are roaming the same battlefield and your squad needs rescuing. A large playable cast and substantial character creator add replay value, though the story naturally lands best for viewers already invested in the anime’s early arcs. Anyone who enjoys the vertical freedom of Spider-Man-style traversal, the target-based hunts of Monster Hunter, or Koei Tecmo’s mission-driven action games finds plenty to enjoy here; newcomers can still appreciate the spectacle, but veterans receive the stronger payoff.
