Bioshock Infinite (The Complete Edition)

Columbia hangs above the clouds as a dazzling 1912 city-state built on patriotic spectacle, religious fervor, and deeply rotten ideals. You play Booker DeWitt, a disgraced former cavalryman sent to retrieve Elizabeth, a young woman held in a tower for most of her life, in exchange for erasing a dangerous debt. Their escape turns a straightforward rescue job into a violent flight through a city on the verge of revolution. BioShock Infinite balances colorful, almost storybook sky-city imagery with political cruelty, supernatural mysteries, and a mounting sense that reality itself is starting to fracture.

Gunfights play like a fast, mobile first-person shooter, mixing conventional weapons with Vigors: powers that let Booker launch enemies into the air, possess machines, set traps, or blast crowds with elemental attacks. Carrying only two guns at a time makes scavenging and adapting to each encounter important, while upgrades improve both firearms and abilities through vending machines and collected gear. Columbia’s Sky-Lines add a welcome twist, allowing Booker to leap onto aerial rails, zip through arenas, and attack from above rather than hiding behind cover. Elizabeth is more than an escort character; she finds supplies during combat and opens Tears that bring in useful cover, turrets, weapons, or other strange alterations to the battlefield.

What separates Infinite from the original BioShock is its pace and its partnership: Columbia is brighter and more open than Rapture, but Elizabeth gives its mystery a personal emotional center. The Complete Edition also includes the Clash in the Clouds combat challenges and the excellent Burial at Sea episodes, which return to Rapture and connect the wider BioShock story in memorable ways. Its shooting can feel less tactical than modern immersive sims, and the final act asks players to follow some deliberately mind-bending ideas, but the presentation and momentum remain exceptional. Fans of cinematic FPS campaigns such as Half-Life 2 or Dishonored, as well as BioShock veterans wanting the full story package, find plenty to enjoy here.
