Lumus is a beautiful fantasy city built on a brutal divide, where gilded estates rise above districts abandoned to hunger, violence, and exploitation. Children of Zodiarcs follows Nahmi, a young thief whose crew steals from the ruling class only to become entangled in a far larger conflict. What begins as a job to recover a relic turns into a desperate flight through noble mansions, guarded streets, criminal hideouts, and the monstrous depths beneath the city. The mood is grim and emotionally charged, with its hand-painted character portraits and storybook environments contrasting sharply against a world where every faction has blood on its hands.

Battles play out on compact tactical grids, asking players to position the party carefully, exploit attack ranges, and decide which enemies need disabling before they overwhelm the group. Rather than relying on fixed commands, each character draws from a customizable deck of combat cards containing attacks, special techniques, movement options, and support abilities. Dice add a second layer of calculated risk: rolling the right symbols strengthens chosen cards, but limited dice and changing hands prevent fights from becoming routine. Between missions, players adjust decks, improve equipment, and build each party member toward a preferred role, whether that means hard-hitting melee pressure, ranged damage, healing, or battlefield control.

Its card-and-dice system makes familiar turn-based tactics feel more unpredictable without reducing everything to blind luck; planning around available resources matters as much as positioning. The campaign also stands apart through a cast that feels vulnerable rather than heroic, as Nahmi and her allies confront the consequences of life under Lumus’s corrupt elite. Difficulty can spike when poor draws collide with dangerous enemy formations, so patience and deck tuning are essential.
