You play Frank Gilman, a scientist who wakes inside the Upuaut base with no clear recollection of the expedition that brought him there or the bizarre device humming nearby. The frozen isolation is oppressive rather than action-heavy, with every dark corridor, forgotten journal, and unnatural sound suggesting that the team has crossed a boundary humanity was never meant to approach. Inspired by At the Mountains of Madness but set beyond its events, Conarium treats cosmic horror as a slow revelation instead of a parade of jump scares.

Progress revolves around searching the station and its surrounding locations for documents, recordings, artifacts, and environmental clues that gradually reconstruct Frank’s past. Puzzles ask you to examine machinery, interpret symbols, locate missing components, and connect scattered details, while dreamlike visions shift the player into stranger spaces where ordinary logic no longer applies. There is no conventional combat system: survival depends on observation, restraint, and avoiding the hostile entities encountered in the expedition’s darkest corners. Conarium stands out through its unusually polished presentation of Lovecraft’s themes: forbidden knowledge, altered identity, and terror born from realizing that mankind is insignificant. Antarctic ruins, ornate scientific instruments, and surreal otherworldly imagery give it more visual personality than many low-budget walking simulators, while the atmospheric soundtrack does much of the heavy lifting. Its puzzles are generally approachable, though players expecting relentless danger or elaborate survival mechanics may find the pace deliberately measured.
