Dead Season is a grim, single-player turn-based tactics campaign where every abandoned street, darkened building, and supply run can collapse into a desperate fight against the undead. Its zombie apocalypse is less about heroic power fantasies than exhaustion, dwindling options, and the awful consequences of making one careless move. The tone stays bleak and tense, with violence, panic, and scarcity defining the survivors’ journey.

Players command the group across 16 handcrafted missions, moving carefully through hostile environments, searching for useful weapons and resources, and completing objectives before an escape route disappears. Combat runs on deliberate turn-based positioning, so cover, movement range, target priority, and the order in which survivors act all matter when enemies begin closing in. Scavenged gear expands the team’s options, while leveling unlocks abilities that help characters endure increasingly brutal scenarios. Noise is a central tactical concern: loud gunfire or reckless actions may solve an immediate problem, but they can also pull more zombies toward an already fragile plan.

Its strongest idea is the way it turns ordinary tactical choices into risk management under constant pressure. Zombies are not the only danger, since hostile human survivors add more unpredictable combat situations and force players to account for weapons as well as numbers. Motion-comic story sequences give the campaign a focused narrative thread without interrupting its mission-driven pace, and the handcrafted structure favors purposeful encounters over an endlessly randomized sandbox. Dead Season suits players who enjoy the methodical squad control of XCOM-style tactics but want it filtered through a harsher, more intimate zombie-survival story; newcomers can learn its systems mission by mission, while genre veterans will appreciate its emphasis on noise, attrition, and narrow escapes.
