Goblins, ratmen, undead, and demon-worshipping horrors occupy the tunnels, giving the campaign a grim, combat-first atmosphere rather than a sprawling dialogue-driven adventure. The appeal lies in leading a small, customizable force through dangerous chambers where one bad position can unravel an entire battle.

Combat plays out on turn-based maps built around cover, chokepoints, elevation, and magical landmarks that can swing the odds. You assemble a six-person squad from 30 distinct classes, mixing durable front-line fighters with assassins, spellcasters, healers, summoners, and more specialized mercenaries. Victories earn experience and loot, allowing heroes to level up, unlock abilities, and equip a huge range of weapons, armor, and artifacts; unwanted finds can be sold to refine your party’s build. The main campaign spans 35 connected missions, while 50 additional patrol battles offer more opportunities to test new class combinations and chase better gear.

Morale is the mechanic that gives fights their most memorable reversals: allies may lose nerve as casualties mount, while others can fly into a lethal rage after seeing a companion fall. Stronger heroes can stabilize weaker party members, and certain classes exploit fear directly through intimidation, illusion, and battlefield manipulation. Spellcasters do more than deal damage, using wards, fire magic, summons, and mind-altering tricks to control space and disrupt enemy plans. Players who enjoy the deliberate squad management of XCOM or the class experimentation of classic dungeon-crawling RPGs will find plenty to like, especially if they prefer dense tactical encounters over cinematic storytelling.
