Divinity II: Ego Draconis is a third-person action RPG with a pulpy, slightly offbeat tone, balancing ruined villages, goblin camps, undead horrors, and sharp comic dialogue. You begin as a Dragon Slayer, trained to destroy the last Dragon Knights, before the story twists that mission into something much larger. Its world feels like a classic fantasy adventure rather than a grim survival ordeal, but there is plenty of danger beneath the humor.

Combat mixes real-time swordplay, bows, and spellcasting, with skill trees allowing you to build around melee force, elemental magic, ranged attacks, or summoned creatures. Quests take you across explorable regions packed with side stories, hidden loot, dungeons, and opponents that can punish careless character builds. Mind-reading NPCs reveals extra clues, secrets, and dialogue choices, though using it consumes experience points and makes every conversation a small risk-reward decision. After gaining Dragon Knight powers, you can transform for aerial combat, burning targets, launching magical attacks, and engaging enemy fliers in sections that break up the ground-based adventuring.

The dragon form is the obvious attraction, but the game’s stranger ideas give it personality: you customize a grotesque creature companion from monster parts, manage the mobile Battle Tower, and use its servants for crafting and upgrades. Its controls and visuals show their age, and the early hours move more slowly than modern action RPGs, yet the underlying quest design remains inventive and surprisingly playful. Larian’s fondness for reactive dialogue, oddball characters, and systems-driven experimentation is already visible here, even if it is less polished than Divinity: Original Sin 2. Fans of Gothic, Fable, or older European RPGs who can tolerate rough edges find a distinctive fantasy campaign, while newcomers should approach it for its ideas and charm rather than flawless action.
