DmC: Devil May Cry

A neon-soaked city twists itself into a hostile nightmare around Dante, a foul-mouthed demon hunter caught between angelic and demonic bloodlines. DmC: Devil May Cry reimagines the series with a younger, more rebellious hero and a contemporary world controlled by hidden supernatural forces. Its Limbo City setting turns streets, buildings, and billboards into living threats, giving the campaign an aggressively surreal tone. The result is a stylish action adventure that feels punk, angry, and intentionally over-the-top without losing the series’ love of spectacle.

Combat revolves around chaining sword strikes, pistols, launchers, dodges, aerial attacks, and grapples into increasingly elaborate combos. Dante switches instantly between angel and demon weapon forms, using the fast Osiris scythe and Arbiter axe alongside his Rebellion sword, while color-coded enemies demand the right tool for the job. Encounters reward aggression and variety rather than repeating one safe move, grading performance on style, time, damage taken, and enemy control. Between battles, the campaign mixes in acrobatic platforming, environmental traversal, collectible hunting, boss fights, and upgrade systems that expand Dante’s move set and improve his health, devil trigger, and weapons.

Ninja Theory’s version stands apart through its constantly shifting environments: a fairground becomes a grotesque killing floor, corporate media turns demonic, and the city itself taunts Dante as he fights through it. The combat is more approachable than the most demanding entries in the original Devil May Cry series, yet higher difficulties and mission rankings give score-chasers plenty to master. Its story and redesigned Dante remain divisive among longtime fans, but the fluid combat, inventive weapon swapping, and strong visual direction hold up well. Players who enjoy Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, or fast character-action games with a slightly more accessible learning curve should find plenty to like here.
