Steel, sorcery, and thunderous heavy metal drive a first-person barbarian rampage through a ruined city built on ancient evil. ELDERBORN casts you as a hard-bitten warrior seeking purpose among doomed tribes, forgotten gods, and the promise of becoming something far more dangerous than an ordinary fighter. Its world channels the cover art and exaggerated mythology of classic fantasy metal, but the mood is not purely playful: beneath the screaming guitars lies a hostile, decaying place full of cults, monsters, and brutal arenas. The result feels like a lost 1990s action game rebuilt with modern responsiveness and Souls-like pressure.

Combat stays close, fast, and physical. You carve through enemies from a first-person perspective using swords, axes, maces, shields, and other melee tools, while managing spacing, stamina, blocks, dodges, charged strikes, and well-timed counters. Encounters often become compact tests of movement and target priority, especially when ranged attackers and heavy enemies force you to stop button-mashing. Defeated foes and discovered secrets feed into RPG-style character growth, letting you improve attributes and tailor a build toward survivability, aggression, or weapon specialization. Linear levels still reward curiosity with hidden routes, lore fragments, upgrades, and useful equipment, while checkpoints keep difficult fights from becoming exhausting.

What separates ELDERBORN from most retro shooters is its commitment to first-person melee rather than firearms, making every duel feel more immediate than a typical corridor crawl. Its chunky visuals, oversized weapons, strange architecture, and full-throttle metal soundtrack give the adventure a distinct identity somewhere between DOOM’s momentum, Dark Messiah’s close combat, and the raw fantasy excess of Conan. The campaign is focused rather than enormous, but varied weapons, build choices, secrets, and higher difficulty settings add reasons to return. Players who enjoy demanding action, old-school level design, and fantasy worlds with more riffs than restraint find plenty to like, while newcomers should expect a learning curve before the combat clicks.
