A bottomless chasm separates the ordered lands of Light from the ruined Outlands, but the gap is closing and an old war is ready to resume. Enclave is a dark fantasy action adventure built around brutal medieval combat, monster-filled strongholds, and an unusually grim sense of place. Rather than presenting a vast open world, it sends players through focused, hazardous missions where every castle corridor, cliff path, and trap-laden ruin feels designed to kill the unwary. Its early-2000s style gives the experience a rough, arcade-like edge, but the atmosphere still sells the struggle between two irreconcilable factions.

Combat centers on third-person swordplay, archery, shields, spells, and a selection of specialized character classes. Light and Darkness each offer their own campaign and roster, letting players take control of warriors, rangers, mages, assassins, druids, and other fighters with different weapons and strengths. Missions reward careful use of equipment: arrows run out, armor matters, magic must be managed, and gold earned during stages pays for stronger gear before the next battle. Platforming and environmental hazards play a major role too, so success often depends as much on timing jumps and avoiding traps as defeating enemies. Difficulty can be unforgiving, especially when enemies swarm or a bad fall means restarting a lengthy section.

What separates Enclave from more conventional fantasy brawlers is its commitment to distinct class-based runs and two opposing perspectives on the same conflict. The Light campaign feels like a heroic defense against invasion, while the Dark side provides a more villainous, monstrous counterpoint with different tools and objectives. Its visuals and controls show their age, and players expecting modern Souls-like precision may need patience, but the game retains a satisfying weight in its weapons and a memorable gothic mood. Fans of Severance: Blade of Darkness, Heretic-style fantasy action, or old-school third-person combat games find plenty to enjoy, while newcomers should arrive ready for a challenging, checkpoint-light adventure.
