Fantastic Four

A superhero brawler built around Marvel’s first family, Fantastic Four turns the 2005 film’s origin story into a more combat-focused adventure with room for bigger villains, stranger locations, and constant destruction. Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm each bring a distinct power set to a campaign that moves well beyond the movie’s central plot. The tone is colorful and comic-book driven rather than especially serious, balancing laboratory disasters and alien threats with the team’s familiar banter. It feels like a product of the PlayStation 2 era in the best and worst ways: straightforward, energetic, and eager to throw another crowd of enemies at you.

Players swap between the four heroes, using Reed’s stretching attacks to control space, Sue’s invisibility and force fields for protection, Johnny’s flames for aggressive ranged damage, and the Thing’s raw strength to smash through opponents and scenery. Levels follow a linear action-adventure structure, mixing arena fights with simple environmental puzzles that require the right hero’s abilities. Combat relies on light and heavy attacks, special moves, blocking, dodging, and cooperative team assaults, while upgrades improve each character’s effectiveness over time. A second player can join locally, making the campaign more enjoyable when friends divide the team and coordinate powers during the busier encounters.

What separates Fantastic Four from many film tie-ins is its willingness to treat the movie as a starting point instead of rigidly recreating every scene. The playable roster gives the action more variety than a typical single-hero licensed game, and switching from the Thing’s blunt-force fighting to Human Torch’s aerial fire attacks keeps repetition under control. Presentation is dated, with stiff visuals and old-school level design, but the game has an uncomplicated charm for players who miss licensed superhero games with arcade-style combat. Fans of X-Men Legends, early Marvel action games, or accessible Devil May Cry-style button combos will find the most to enjoy here, while newcomers should expect a breezy, nostalgic adventure rather than a deep character-action challenge.
