Halls of Torment (v2026.04.14 & ALL DLC)

A grim descent into monster-packed catacombs, Halls of Torment combines the compulsive survival loop of Vampire Survivors with the gloomy, pre-rendered look of late-1990s action RPGs. Each run casts you as a lone hero facing an ever-thickening tide of demons, undead, and other infernal creatures while a survival timer counts down to a confrontation with a Tormented Lord. Its atmosphere is deliberately old-school: chunky models, dark dungeons, and a top-down viewpoint give every arena the feel of a lost PC dungeon crawler. Runs stay brisk, usually lasting no more than half an hour, but the pressure rarely lets up.

Combat centers on movement, positioning, and selecting upgrades as experience drops from slain enemies. Heroes attack automatically, leaving you to weave through crowds, kite dangerous elites, collect loot, and shape a build from abilities, traits, equipment, and item modifiers. A swordsman can become a whirling close-range executioner, while spell-focused characters fill the screen with projectiles, summons, or elemental effects; the real fun comes from finding synergies that turn a fragile opening build into a relentless killing machine. Underground stages also include traps and environmental hazards that can punish careless players or become useful weapons against a pursuing horde. Bosses demand more attention than ordinary waves, using distinct patterns that force you to read the arena instead of simply standing in a damage field.

What separates Halls of Torment from many survivor-likes is its blend of run-based escalation and tangible RPG-style persistence. Completing quests, rescuing or finding useful NPCs, unlocking heroes, and extracting equipment to the overworld gives failed runs value and opens fresh build possibilities for later attempts. The pre-rendered visual style is more than nostalgia, lending the game a murky Diablo-era identity that suits its brutal dungeon setting. Players who enjoy Vampire Survivors, Diablo, or fast buildcrafting roguelites will find plenty to chase here, while newcomers benefit from simple controls and short sessions; veterans can dig into the larger roster, tougher zones, item optimization, and boss-focused challenges.
