Combat shifts to a side-view tactical duel where individual ships thrust, turn, dodge shells, launch missiles, and target vulnerable sections of enemy hulls; raw firepower matters, but positioning and momentum matter more. A careless victory can still ruin a run if fuel tanks are empty, essential crew are lost, or an irreplaceable vessel needs expensive repairs. Diplomacy, intercepted communications, and reconnaissance add a layer of uncertainty, while the ship editor lets you modify existing craft or construct specialized missile carriers, tanky brawlers, nimble interceptors, and logistical support ships.
