Occupied Philadelphia becomes a hostile patchwork of ruined neighborhoods, surveillance towers, and heavily armed Korean People’s Army patrols in this scrappy open-world FPS. Homefront: The Revolution trades the power fantasy of a conventional military shooter for the tension of an under-equipped insurgency, where every stolen weapon and liberated street matters. Its alternate-history setting is bleak, grounded in civilian hardship, and deliberately uncomfortable as the Resistance fights an enemy with drones, armor, and overwhelming air support. The result is a campaign that feels less like a clean battlefield push and more like surviving behind enemy lines.

Players move between districts with different levels of KPA control, gathering supplies, rescuing allies, sabotaging infrastructure, and striking occupation forces before slipping away. Combat rewards guerrilla thinking: plant traps, use distractions, ambush convoys, hijack vehicles, or turn a suppressed firearm into a louder but deadlier tool through the flexible weapon-conversion system. Captured safehouses act as useful footholds, while civilians can be inspired to join clashes as Resistance influence grows. Gunfights can become messy quickly, especially in heavily guarded red zones, so scavenging ammo, crafting explosives, and knowing when to retreat are as important as aim. The package also includes the Resistance co-op mode, where up to four players tackle replayable missions together, plus the story expansions that broaden the conflict beyond the main campaign.

What separates it from more linear shooters is the way its occupied city encourages improvised attacks rather than prescribed combat arenas. Philadelphia’s neighborhoods have a convincing sense of decay and oppression, while CryEngine lighting gives rain-soaked streets, propaganda screens, and abandoned homes a memorable atmosphere. The campaign’s revolution system occasionally promises more systemic impact than it fully delivers, and the shooting lacks the polish of genre leaders, but its weapon customization and urban guerrilla angle remain strong ideas. Fans of Far Cry-style outposts, Metro’s grim occupied spaces, or unconventional FPS campaigns find plenty to like, especially if they bring friends for co-op.
