Robin’s wrench is both her livelihood and her crime in a crumbling religious dystopia where unlicensed mechanics are treated as heretics. Iconoclasts turns that premise into a richly drawn 2D action-adventure, balancing bright pixel-art charm with a story about repression, grief, faith, and a world running out of the fuel that keeps it alive. As One Concern enforcers close in and friends are pulled into increasingly dangerous conflicts, Robin becomes tangled in a crisis far beyond fixing broken machinery. The tone shifts confidently between witty character moments, tense chases, and genuinely heavy emotional consequences.

Most of the adventure revolves around traveling through interconnected regions, using Robin’s wrench to repair mechanisms, redirect machinery, open paths, and manipulate the environment. Platforming remains precise and approachable, while puzzles gradually become more elaborate as new tools and abilities expand how you move through each area. Combat is fast and readable, mixing blaster shots, wrench attacks, evasive movement, and situational gadgets against soldiers, creatures, and inventive mechanical threats. More than twenty large boss encounters serve as the major tests, often demanding observation and smart use of the arena rather than simple reflexes, while adjustable difficulty settings and modifiers let players tune the challenge.

What separates Iconoclasts from standard retro-inspired platformers is its unusually ambitious narrative and the care put into its dense, hand-crafted locations. Every major character has understandable motives even when their choices become ugly, giving the story a tragic weight reminiscent of the more character-driven moments in Metroid-style adventures. Its progression has some of the exploration appeal of Metroid, but it is more directed and story-focused than a sprawling open-ended metroidvania. Players who want polished pixel art, demanding bosses, clever environmental puzzles, and a surprisingly affecting sci-fi drama will find plenty to love, whether they are newcomers to the genre or veterans tired of empty nostalgia.
