Chibito cannot defend herself, yet her creative power helps shape routes and solve problems that Kyojin cannot simply smash through. The pair sometimes travel together with Kyojin carrying her, while other situations separate them and make her guidance, placement, and protection more important.

Hakoniwa gives the adventure its identity, presenting a dense, unsettling landscape inhabited by bizarre life forms and suspicious figures hunting Chibito for their own reasons. Rather than treating escort mechanics as a passive nuisance, IZON builds its whole structure around cooperation between a protector and someone who changes the environment. That creation-versus-destruction theme suggests a blend of cinematic companionship, tactical combat, and environmental problem-solving, closer in spirit to games such as The Last Guardian than a conventional hack-and-slash.
