Ancient tombs become elegant, lethal board-game puzzles in this compact reimagining of Lara Croft’s adventures. Rather than relying on acrobatic firefights, Lara Croft GO turns each ruin into a beautifully staged diorama where every move can trigger danger or reveal a route forward. Its story follows Lara as she investigates the legend of the Queen of Venom, descending through forgotten temples, crumbling caverns, and ceremonial chambers filled with traps. The mood is quiet, mysterious, and surprisingly tense, with a polished visual style and atmospheric score that make even small rooms feel like archaeological set pieces.

Movement takes place on a fixed grid, with Lara and most enemies acting one turn at a time. Players plot safe paths around collapsing floors, spike traps, rolling boulders, and hostile creatures, then manipulate switches, bridges, ropes, and movable objects to open the next route. Encounters are puzzles rather than battles: snakes, lizards, and larger guardians follow distinct movement rules, so success depends on luring them into hazards, slipping behind them, or finding an alternate path. Levels steadily add new mechanics and demand more careful planning, while optional collectibles reward players who examine each chamber instead of rushing to the exit. The PC edition also includes unlimited hints and the available outfits, making it friendlier when a late-game puzzle proves stubborn.

What separates it from most Tomb Raider games is its restraint. Lara is still recognizably resourceful and fearless, but the focus is on reading spaces and solving concise tactical problems rather than looting vast maps or upgrading weapons. Its clean, stylized presentation shares the miniature puzzle-box appeal of Hitman GO, yet the traps, ruins, and climbing-themed interactions give it a stronger sense of adventure. Puzzles are generally approachable at first and become satisfyingly demanding without requiring action-game reflexes. Anyone who enjoys Monument Valley, Hitman GO, or the puzzle-heavy tombs in modern Tomb Raider should find a focused, clever adventure here, while longtime Lara fans get a fresh interpretation of the character.
