The mood is oppressive rather than quietly investigative: ruined streets, haunted estates, and shifting nightmare spaces are full of cultists, monsters, and the constant sense that reality is coming apart. Lovecraft’s Untold Stories 2 keeps the literary horror backdrop but delivers it through fast, demanding action-RPG combat.

Players choose among six investigators, including returning figures such as the Detective, Witch, and Professor alongside the Veteran, Medium, and Alienist. Each character approaches fights differently through ranged attacks, melee options, supernatural abilities, or more tactical tools, so choosing a hero meaningfully affects your build and survival strategy. Areas generate anew as you enter them, filling runs with randomized enemy placements, loot, resources, side quests, and hazards; death sends you back to the start of the current zone rather than erasing the entire campaign. Combat rewards careful positioning, evasive movement, and managing supplies, especially when tougher enemies or large boss encounters crowd the screen.

Crafting is the sequel’s major addition, letting you gather materials and blueprints to make weapons, clothing, and consumables, with equipment also changing your investigator’s visible appearance. That loop of scavenging, upgrading, and attempting increasingly dangerous locations gives the game more long-term structure than a straightforward twin-stick shooter, though its difficulty can be punishing when poor loot or an aggressive enemy mix works against you. Procedural maps make repeated attempts less predictable, while the distinct cast encourages experimentation with different builds. Fans of dark action RPGs such as The Ascent or roguelite dungeon crawlers who want more Lovecraftian atmosphere should find plenty to like, but newcomers should expect a rougher, more demanding experience than a relaxed story adventure.
