In a near-future society where every appliance, business, and city system connects to the Net, Lan Hikari and MegaMan.EXE fight cybercrime one virus-filled crisis at a time. Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection Vol. 1 gathers the first three RPG adventures in the series, including both Blue and White versions of Battle Network 3, into one package. The tone lands somewhere between Saturday-morning anime adventure and surprisingly tense digital disaster fiction, with schoolyard comedy giving way to hijacked infrastructure, criminal syndicates, and dangerous viruses. Its world remains distinctive because the internet is treated as a place you physically navigate through MegaMan’s eyes.

Combat plays out on a compact 3×6 grid where quick movement, positioning, charged shots, defensive options, and carefully timed special attacks matter as much as raw damage. Before each encounter, players assemble folders of BattleChips—single-use attacks, swords, elemental blasts, shields, recovery tools, and transformations—then draw from that deck during real-time battles. Outside combat, Lan investigates the real world, talks to NPCs, solves light environmental puzzles, jacks into devices, and searches cyberspace for upgrades, chips, and optional bosses. The collection also supports online battles and chip trading, while its included DLC expands access to special chips and event-related content that was once much harder to obtain.

Rather than copying a conventional turn-based JRPG formula, these games fuse deck-building strategy with the immediacy of an action battler, creating fights that reward both planning and reflexes. Each entry refines the formula, while Battle Network 3’s two versions offer different chips, encounters, and reasons to revisit the campaign. A gallery and music player add worthwhile archival value for longtime fans, though the early games still carry some handheld-era backtracking and cryptic objectives.
