Its tone is suitably grim and violent, but the emergent personalities of boasting captains, terrified survivors, and treacherous allies often create moments that are genuinely funny. The result feels like an Assassin’s Creed-style open world crossed with a revenge story that remembers every grudge.

Combat revolves around swift sword strikes, counters, vaults, stealth kills, archery, and spectral abilities, with Talion gradually unlocking stronger ways to control a crowd or dismantle elite foes. The real loop comes from studying the Nemesis System: you identify an Uruk captain’s fears, immunities, gang members, and bodyguards, then exploit that knowledge in hunts, ambushes, duels, and public executions. Rather than simply killing every target, you can dominate captains, recruit them into your army, send them to infiltrate enemy ranks, and eventually assault heavily defended fortresses.
