A cursed moon hangs over a remote Norwegian village in October 1944, turning a wartime investigation into a gleefully bizarre occult mystery. Nine Witches: Family Disruption follows Alexei Krakovitz, a wheelchair-using professor of supernatural studies, and his capable assistant Akiro Kagasawa as they investigate a Nazi occult unit in the town of Sundäe. The premise mixes secret Reich experiments, ancient magic, witches, corpses with opinions, and wildly inappropriate comedy rather than treating its grim setting with straight-faced seriousness. Its tone lands somewhere between a classic LucasArts-style adventure and an offbeat horror cartoon, with plenty of grotesque gags and deliberately strange characters.

Play revolves around searching hand-painted pixel-art locations, interrogating locals, collecting odd inventory items, and working out the kind of logic-heavy puzzles adventure fans expect. Alexei and Akiro serve different practical roles during the investigation, with conversations and environmental interactions often drawing attention to their contrasting personalities and abilities. Akiro also handles more immediate threats when the story calls for action, giving the journey a little more momentum than a purely point-and-click puzzle game. Progress comes from carefully examining scenes, revisiting locations as new clues emerge, and combining information with increasingly ridiculous tools, inventions, and occult artifacts.

What makes the adventure memorable is its willingness to commit to nonsense without losing sight of its central mystery: every disturbing Nazi ritual and supernatural revelation is filtered through dry dialogue, absurd visual jokes, and an intentionally pulpy serial tone. The retro presentation is clean and expressive rather than merely nostalgic, using chunky animation and exaggerated character designs to make Sundäe feel like a cursed comic strip. Puzzles can occasionally demand patience and a willingness to test inventory ideas, but the story’s brisk pace and eccentric cast keep it moving. Fans of Thimbleweed Park, Broken Sword, and old-school comedic adventures will find plenty to enjoy, while newcomers get an accessible, compact mystery with a distinctive setting.
