Onee Chanbara Origin (v1.03 & ALL DLC’s)

Tokyo’s ruined streets become a splattered anime battlefield where two sword-wielding half-sisters hunt the undead—and ultimately each other. Onee Chanbara Origin remakes the earliest entries in the series as a fast, knowingly pulpy action game, mixing family tragedy with outrageous costumes, monster swarms, and gallons of blood. Aya searches for her missing father and estranged sister Saki, while Saki follows a far darker path built around revenge and a forbidden ritual. The tone swings between melodramatic supernatural drama and unapologetically B-movie excess, making it far less serious than its grim apocalypse initially suggests.

Combat revolves around carving through crowds with swords, dual blades, and firearms, then changing tactics when tougher undead and huge boss creatures enter the arena. Aya and Saki each bring distinct weapon options and abilities, encouraging players to learn dodges, counters, air attacks, charged strikes, and character-specific transformations rather than rely on one button. Blood coating a blade is more than visual flair: letting weapons become too filthy reduces their effectiveness, so fights demand timely cleaning or weapon swaps amid the chaos. Story chapters move through compact urban stages, factories, temples, and other monster-filled locations, with defeated enemies providing rewards that unlock weapons, upgrades, outfits, and extra ways to replay missions.

Its cel-shaded presentation gives the carnage a sharp comic-book look, while redesigned cutscenes make the sisters’ rivalry easier to follow than in the original releases. The combat does not carry the precision or depth of Devil May Cry, and repeated enemy packs can become tiresome, but the blood-management system gives its simple hack-and-slash foundation a welcome bit of tension. Fans of Earth Defense Force-style B-movie energy, anime action, and deliberately excessive Japanese games should find plenty to enjoy in its short, replayable campaign. Newcomers can jump in without prior series knowledge, while veterans get a modernized version of the franchise’s most important early storyline.
