Falling is the whole point in Only Down, a deliberately absurd indie adventure that turns the vertical-platforming craze upside down. Rather than scaling an impossible tower, you guide a strange ragdoll protagonist through a 25-kilometre drop toward the lowest place imaginable. The tone is knowingly stupid, packed with low-poly visuals that resemble a forgotten 1980s computer game and physics that treat every landing as a potential disaster. There is no grand story or emotional journey here; the joke is simply whether you can reach the bottom without reality, momentum, or the level geometry betraying you.

Progress comes from carefully steering your descent through floating obstacles, narrow passages, portals, trampolines, and hazardous structures that can send you flying far off course. Flight control gives you some ability to correct a fall, while bullet time slows chaotic moments enough to line up a safer landing or avoid smashing into the scenery. Checkpoints reduce some of the frustration, though the intentionally unreliable ragdoll physics and occasional texture traps keep every route unpredictable. An unstuck option exists for the moments when the character becomes lodged in the environment, but reckless experimentation can still send you into a much worse destination than the finish line.

Only Down stands out because it openly embraces jank instead of disguising it, making glitches, awkward movement, and silly level design part of the entertainment. Its huge downward course feels like a parody counterpart to games such as Only Up!, replacing tense upward progress with the constant fear of overshooting a platform or plummeting into nonsense. Performance is intentionally lightweight, and the simple presentation keeps attention on the bizarre descent rather than visual spectacle. Players who enjoy meme games, physics sandboxes, and frustrating-but-funny platforming will find plenty to laugh at, while anyone seeking polished controls, meaningful narrative, or carefully tuned challenge should probably take the green elevator—except the game strongly advises against that.
