Ally and Old Dog follow the Cryptic Killer’s trail only to become pieces in his latest cruel game, with each investigator seeing only part of the larger picture. The mood blends tense mystery with playful co-op mischief, while sharply illustrated comic panels carry the story through a grimy, stylized detective world. Although it follows Unboxing the Cryptic Killer, Parallel Experiment tells a complete enough case for newcomers to join without homework.

Every challenge requires two players, separated by barriers, different rooms, or entirely different information. One partner may find a code, mechanism, diagram, or environmental clue that means nothing on their side but unlocks the other player’s next move, so clear conversation matters as much as observation. The puzzle roster ranges from ciphers, passwords, locks, circuitry, and water-routing devices to stranger situational problems involving characters and the environment. Progress comes from comparing notes, testing theories, and gradually turning isolated fragments into a solution, while a shared drawing and note-taking system gives players a useful place to record details—or scribble distractions.

Parallel Experiment stands out because it treats asymmetric co-op as the foundation of nearly every interaction rather than a side feature. Its roughly comic-book-page presentation gives the investigation a strong visual identity, and its dialogue can demand collaboration too, making conversations part of the puzzle design rather than mere exposition. Retro-styled side activities such as darts, matching games, and claw machines offer lighter competitive breaks, while each area also gives partners ways to deliberately irritate one another with pokes, noises, and screen-shaking antics. Fans of We Were Here, escape rooms, and classic point-and-click mysteries should find plenty to enjoy, especially if they want a demanding but approachable two-player case that rewards patience and good banter.
