A bank job is only the beginning in PAYDAY The Heist, a tense co-op FPS built around the fantasy of surviving a criminal operation after every plan inevitably goes loud. You play as one of four masked professionals robbing banks, escorting stolen goods, breaking prisoners out of police custody, and escaping under enormous pressure. Its world is grounded rather than glamorous: fluorescent offices, cramped streets, armoured vans, and relentless police assaults create a scrappy, desperate action-movie mood. The included DLC broadens the selection of jobs, firearms, gear, and character options, giving the package more variety than its compact original campaign suggests.

Each heist combines preparation, objective work, and prolonged defensive firefights. Teams drill locks, move bags of cash, secure hostages, hack systems, escort targets, or wait for an escape vehicle while police units escalate from regular officers to shields, tasers, and heavily armoured specials. Up to four players cooperate online, while AI partners can fill empty slots, though coordinated human crews make the objectives far more manageable. A broad skill tree lets players specialize in ammunition, weapons, medical support, crowd control, mobility, or hostage management, and civilians are valuable resources because traded hostages can bring arrested teammates back into the fight.

PAYDAY The Heist stands out through the friction between robbery objectives and Left 4 Dead-style survival shooting. Missions change through enemy spawns, shifting objective conditions, loot handling, and the unpredictable mistakes of a co-op squad, so even familiar maps can become chaotic. It lacks the stealth depth and enormous long-term build variety of PAYDAY 2, but its smaller scale gives it a focused, old-school arcade intensity. Players who enjoy co-op shooters, defensive last stands, and high-pressure teamwork will find a lean but satisfying heist game here, especially with a regular group willing to communicate.
