Rose and Cross

An abandoned farm swallowed by cornfields becomes the stage for a compact, unnerving descent into obsession and rural occult folklore. Rose and Cross is a first-person psychological horror experience built around the uneasy idea that curiosity can be as dangerous as any monster. You play an investigator fascinated by sects and forbidden beliefs, following grim local stories to a property supposedly stained by ritual violence. The mood is deliberately claustrophobic and hostile, trading jump-scare excess for the dread of being somewhere no one should have entered.

The action centers on slow, deliberate exploration of the deserted house and its surrounding grounds. Rather than relying on weapons or action-heavy survival mechanics, the game asks you to search rooms, inspect unsettling environmental details, and piece together what happened to the farm’s former inhabitants. Its short walking-simulator structure keeps the focus on atmosphere, sound design, and the mounting suspicion that the legends are more than small-town superstition. Unreal Engine 5 presentation gives the farm and its decaying interiors a sharp, modern visual texture, particularly in the contrast between open fields and cramped, shadowed rooms. Rose and Cross stands out less through elaborate systems than through its focused premise: a brief supernatural investigation designed to leave you uneasy rather than empowered. Its pacing and reliance on environmental storytelling place it closer to titles such as Layers of Fear or other linear indie haunted-house excursions than to combat-driven horror like Resident Evil. It suits players who enjoy short, atmospheric scares, occult themes, and methodical exploration, while veterans looking for deep puzzles, branching outcomes, or extensive replay value may find its straightforward format slight.
