Senatus is a strategic card game set in the heart of the Roman Republic where victory is achieved not by swords, but through rhetoric and political maneuvering. Each match unfolds as a high-stakes debate, challenging you to sway the majority of the Senate to your side. The Senate floor is represented by a 5×5 grid, where every card symbolizes your political influence with specific directions of attack and defense. Placing a card activates its “influence arrows,” which can convert rival cards around it to your color, potentially triggering chain reactions that reshape control of the chamber. Success depends on careful planning and timing to dominate the political battlefield. Starting as a common Senator, your goal is to rise through the ranks—from Aedile to Tribune, Praetor, and ultimately Consul—by winning debates and increasing your Relevance. However, political life is precarious, and if your Relevance drops to zero, your career ends in obscurity. Between sessions, you have seven days to explore the Eternal City, walking through the Roman Forum, visiting the Temple of Jupiter, or scouting the Campus Martius. These excursions allow you to find new allies and acquire stronger cards. Knowing the next debate topic in advance, you can strategically build a deck that counters your rivals’ agendas and secures your path to power in the Senate.
